hello, afraid i'm haveing a wee rant now.
of late i just keeping finding myself thinking that most bike riders are twits!
now dont get me wrong, i have been riding for a very long time now and have tryed most types of the sport (from dh to xc to dirt jumping and now singlespeed). the problem i have with most riders is they dont know why they ride! for example at my local dh track most of the people there are just obessed with new kit, and seconedly speed. i dont think anyone of them rides for the fun of it, they just want the lastest kit that peaty or hill has. but yet challenge them to a race and funny how they always have the wrong tyres on or problem with the rebound or such cr*p!
the xc crowd again i have little time for. having sold my overweight "jud" of a dh bike for a single speed cove i've tryed to join in on this riding up hill game. but after a number of miles of my continuously "playing" (playing being defined by bunny hopping, wheelies and a slight miss judged river crossing) i got board of the "lets get to the top quickest" mindset. and besides spandex does not keep you warm in the winter!
for dirt jumping, well, granted i may not have the skills to be able to do backflips and the likes but maybe i'm just not cool enougth for that crowd! again not saying all dirt jumpers are all inbread or such (for they are not) but it just seems theres to much fashion and style around. i mean why would you want something called "spank" on your bike? maybe you have hidden sexual thoughts you should go tell the lady about before it all goes pear shaped!
everyone seems to be taking it all to seriously, who cares if your bike has ten inches of flex, or how fast you can ride up a hill. even a un-named bike mag that i have read for a while has gone tits up. without repeating myself, it all seems about image now.
also the whole website forum thing gets me to! there are a few websites i post on. and i often find that again, its all about image with them (them, being kids!). for example someone posts a picture of them riding and with in minutes some smart arse has posted a reply saying, oh that jump is small, that bike is poo, theres mud on your bike and how dare you get it dirty! argh.... why can they just not go for a ride and enjoy it (yes i know the irony!)
as to the singlespeed, well having only done 1/150 miles on it i havent found anything to winge about yet but am sure in time i will,... but until then if anyone else doesnt like the majority of arsey self righteous people they meet on a bike and want some one to ride with and put the world to right with and live in north manchester. give us a shout, but dont shout to loud as i dont like loud noises!! lol
oh and one last thing, working in a bike shop (as i do) it still find my self amazed that people expect a solid commuting bike for £100! its just not going to happen!
anyway, thats my rant for now. if you don find yourself being discribed above, dont take offence. its just one mans rant!
safe trails all
