Muddy Fox explorer

Hi Guys,

Newbie here, just recently bought my first retro mountain bike!

as a young teenager in the late 80's I always wanted a muddy fox but as they were a bit pricey my mum and dad bought me a peugeot lynx instead!

Anyway have just got my hands on a really nice condition muddy fox explorer for £50 from a local guy.

I was just wondering if there was any way to accurately date the bike? maybe from the serial number or something?
The chap who sold it said that he had got it imported from california in the 80's but couldnt remember exactly when!

I have seen the scans on here of the 88 explorer advert and mine has the earlier decals so I am guessing that it is pre 1988?

any help is much appreciated.

Easy to tell the year, lugged frame is '87 lugless Tig welded is '88.

Think you must also have a Suntour roller cam brake under the chainstays too. I'd have an '88 in my collection if I could get away with it, I do like them.
