Great dvd by the way (Christmas pressy). Big topic to cover which I appreciate. Just a pity there wasn't more on the early days of UK racing and some of the stars. Baker, Gould, Clarke, Alexander, Foord etc. They were everywhere in the public eye. Saturday morning TV etc. Gould did really well in the early World Cup races in the USA. They were all very significant and hardly got a mention. Just my opinion of course.

They had to leave out much more than they put in. Something to do with film being a narrative driven medium.

If we want all the detail about the British manufacturers and the racing heroes etc, a more appropriate media like a book would be better. That way your not restricted by the amount of surviving video footage or whether you can get copyright clearance to show it.

Many of the contributors to this film gave their copyright for free.

There was BBC and Channel4 programme footage that the small independent production company involved wanted to use, but simply could not afford the large copyright fees being asked. Its a shame that this footage will probably never be seen again as there is not enough demand for it to be shown to justify the fees. :(
