Marin Muirwoods : Too far gone to save ?

Good afternoon all

I've just bought this.
Yes, bought it.
I did it to save it being scrapped and lost forever. My heart ruled my head but now it's safe with me...for now.

Is it too far gone to restore ? I have a Muirwoods already so this I feel is a breaker. It has 200GS groupset on it, the shifters work ok it seems and everything is there, albeit rusty. I considered a rat-bike project but a 17.5 inch frame is too small for me really so what should I do ?

If there's any interest for parts i'll break it up, at least then they'll be re-used.

Thoughts please.

Looks alright to me. But then I have a fondness for scrapper bikes that look like crap but ride great. As you probably know already 200GS is a POS.

Whether it'll repay the effort or money you put into it is another matter. A seat post/saddle could well more than double what I hope you paid for it. It might need a new chain too.

Same here.

They never repay the effort / money if you come to sell... but they more than repay it if you just ride.

No, it had been stored in a shed, i'm guessing it wasn't watertight

I'm not scratching my head as such but i've got two Saracens in the pipeline and reality is setting in :facepalm: :roll:

Ordinarily, I won't give up on stuff, especially Marin. But those tubes
Need careful assessment start with chain and seat stays. See if corrosion
has got the better of it.
If all is good then, a good scrub with pink stuff or such like and
zolatone is tough stuff. May look ok. With some stubborn remnants.
Looks like all transmission and brake blocks to stand any chance of being
a runner.
I like a wreck rescue story though, 300LX is generally cheap.

If the tubes are full of rust holes, slide some led string lights on the inside and use it as a chandelier
