LBS - Oxford / Bodicote - buying a new bike

Sorry chaps, its not retro - my brother needs a new bike for his son to cycle to school on. I was trying to direct him to an LBS that could sell him a Trek or Marin and not put the cash in Halfords ... but I dont know the local area.

Anyone from around that way direct me / him to an independent that would sell him a bike for 500-600?

Theres a lot of almost new bikes coming onto the market second hand at the moment.....you will get a lot more bang for you buck!

I totally agree Tooty, but my brother isnt confident maintaining it, so buying new and being able to know that its set up ok + can take it back for a tune up is a premium he would pay. Personally I'd happily pay half on eBay and tinker all evening to get it right. But if he is going to buy new I'd like to direct him to somewhere not owned by a pension fund!
