FRONT MECH CLAMP

Excellent Ian, the reason I pointed it out is, I have a Dawes Sardar touring bike and the factory fitted mech clamp was tightened by a gorilla
methinks , and when I unbolted the clamp the tubing was crushed quite badly.
The tubing is 631, perhaps it is thinner than 531c. Anyway was the tubing unmarked, I hope so. The clamp needs very little force for it to stay in position,

best regards
Mike the bike.

Re:

What a great read this post was. I recently finished restoring this well used Road Ace, unfortunately mine wasn't as good a starting point as yours but think I can do better on cleaning up the components, although I feel I shouldn't go over the top or I run the risk of making the frame look worse, it might be better to keep the parts patina in keeping with the frame, unless I get the frame re painted, which then spoils the bikes true identity.

I just taped the bars, oh well, it'll be right, we're allowed a little cheat or two.
Yes it's a little on the large 23.5" side for my little on the little 5'6" side.
It feels comfortable ish, I just need to work the muscles I never used, my go to bike is MTB. I'll give it a couple of weeks and if the new aches don't fade I'll admit defeat (o;

That's the 'modern day' version Ambrosio tape! Note it hasn't got the holes in the middle of the tape.

This modern tape isn't as good as the old version, it doesn't stretch as good as the older stuff.

I did notice the lack of holes, I guess a tape measure and a 1mm HSS in my cordless drill won't quite cut the mustard, so to speak ha ha. Useful info thanks.

"So, what we have here is a set of original Bike Ribbon in blue. As you'll see from the picture it's the full and proper set - the adhesive tape itself, the extra bits to wrap around the brake lever clamps, and the rainbow finishing bands."

Had me sold, well in as long as it takes to knacker this tape currently on, which might be a while (o;
