Help me identify this frame. Is it truly GIANT?

Hi folks!
I search everywhere and didn't find any answer.
Please help me identify this frame. The seller say it 1998 GIANT but I doubt it because it has U-brake stay at the back.

Hi, first of all, maybe just a mistake, saying or typing 1998 instead of 1989 or 1988?

Still I can't prove other than by the bade at the head tube that this is a Giant.

The 1989 Giant Super Sierra for instance had U-Brakes but below the seat stays.

Maybe the seller typing incorrectly LOL
Yes I'm googling and find that Super Sierra had U-brake but at the below, and didn't find another model that had u-brake.
Hope someone could answer about the serial number clue.

From what I learn so far, from the serial number, it's Giant from 1990.

Another bike from 1990 is Miyata team ridge runner, also has U-brake at the back.
