Guy I bought it from did some work to it, i.e. HS11 brakes (got to drill some holes out for routing the cables & shorten those cables), bottom bracket, headset.
New wheels, gonna replace those. Don't exactly know by which.
Shifter are 3x6, but cassette is 7-speed, got to replace those.
I think 3x8 Deore LX.
Thinking about stripping paint of fork and polish it, no decals.
Frame getting polished and new decals.

Suggestions about parts are welcome, doesn't have to be all retro or high end.
Working on a small budget.

Is gonna be my 1st build, did turn an early Santos scc01 in my everyday bike.
Also from Marktplaats for €80,-

Re: GT Backwoods

Bargain with those maguras.

Is is a 1999? It has the integrated seat collar that Zaskar Le's had in 1997, so later than that. And it has 6061 sticker, which I know Backwoods didn't have up to 1997 (I had a 1997 back in the day from new).

Those forks are actually ok too. Quite like them (assuming yours work of course).

Don't know what year it is, when I'm at home I will post the framenumber, fork is working like a dream.
He had it serviced.
Question, what tool do you need for the microlube?
Magura's were like 3 months old :D .

Re: GT Backwoods

Im on my mobile but if you go to archive and magazine scan and search the gt catalogues they are all there to 1999 so should be able to find out

Re: GT Backwoods

Been browsing, but can't find an similar type, with the integrated seatpost clamp en 6061 decal.
It's not to important to me but would be nice.
Disassembled most off the bike, did a bit of polishing. It's addictive :D .
Whenever I go for a smoke in the shed I have to polish a bit.

This week I'm gonna strip the fork en polish it, will post pictures how it it turns out.

Anyone on the forum sells GT Decals?

Re: GT Backwoods

Got all bits from the frame now, saw a second number on BB

BI-1200

Looked for 6061 stamp on dropouts, nothing there. So decal makes no sense.
Found an picture of an 2000 backwoods with integrated seatpost clamp.
So all and all think it's an 2000 model.

But than again, stx-rc derries say it's an earlier type.
Plus the cable routing is different.

Found this picture of an 1998 avalanche, looks the same. But why put Backwoods decals on an avalnche frame?

Kore stem and a race face deus stem. Don't know which one gonna be used.
Wheels STX-RC hubs with mavic rims.

Fork is halfway being polished, sanded the paint of with 80 grid.

Looking for STX 3x8 shifter set, at first I'm going to use a deore LX set.

Looking forward to the weekend.

Re: GT Backwoods or not?

Small Update, did some polishing.
Not sure if I'm going to polish some more, kinda like this look.

Sold on the wheels, tommorow my new wheels arrive.

Re: GT Backwoods or not?

That looks nice , the backwoods had a 73 mm bb shell ( all the ones I've had anyway) as opposed to a 68
Pretty sure the seat post is a 27 as well ,26.8 on most others
Compare the tube positions in similar sizes and welds between the various frames ,you'll see differences
May just be a manufacturer thing but they do vary
