If you wait till the Summer Ian when Aldi bring back the cycling gear, they do a lightweight baggy short with a detachable set of lycra padded undershorts, I use them with other shorts also. I think they are just a bit over a tenner.
Got some Muddy Fox ones Ollie, seem good so far.
Still like to try some gel ones though.
Can't believe when I was a kid doing mountain biking I never thought about crap like padded shorts
