I think the style of those forks may be a bit to recent for when the Ultimates were made. They look more like a 90's fork to me.
Mark, I don't really know why I think that but there were a couple of little things that didn't seem just 'right'. The gear hanger wasn't quite right, it allowed the mech to hang to far forward which is probably why I kept hitting it with my heel - and my feet aren't overbig! And the frame number too wasn't what I would have expected but I can't remember now what it was. Robin Hatherell who ran the MKM website at the time thought it was OK though. He used it as his front page bike.
That's interesting Nob- but a lot older than the first Ultimate - probably by about 30 years? That's on Hilary Stone's site I take it. Does he speculate on the year?
