I don't remember the "new" SSC's in 1977/8, just the old silver Service des Courses. Likewise I Don't remember the GP4 in 1977/8 or any Campagnolo rims either.........maybe it's my memory fading again LOL

Hello again - I have got my pics mixed up - the one I`m thinking of from `78 was Gudefrot - riders were having a tough day ....
Anyone got a pair of those blue rubber lever covers?

That's cracking. His right-hand brake cable is disorderly: more likely due to a fall than a sloppy mechanic, and easily balanced by the huge watch on his left wrist.

And let's not forget that he'd just ploughed the field in the background before that shot was taken ... which is why he's a bit late.

Rather mud than hills:

I realise that I am five years too late, but in 1977 he was on grey anodized Mavic SSC rims.

Or to be more precise his 1977 P-R bike, that Gios bring to Eroica every year, has Grey SSC's fitted and in a conversation with Marco he confirmed that Mavic SSC's were the rim used.

Sorry if this is no longer any use:).
