I'm a bit of a Trek fan myself, my first MTB was a 1991 850 which I still have.
I saw a demonstration of a fibre optic camera that would do the job at the Race Retro show last Friday, not all that expensive for a garage, under £200, much quicker and cheaper than taking an engine apart.
