Braking problem

Running some old Weinmann Centre Pulls, I'm having a problem where the cable outer pops out of the top of the lever when returning the lever after braking. It's driving me mad although not causing any actual issues mechanically. What can I do to stop this. Do I need hoods on the levers to keep everything running smoothly?

Re:

That sounds very possible as my cutters aren't the sharpest, think ill throw a bit of grease on it and see if it goes away.

Needle file inside the outer where you cut the cable ?...

This is going to be a stupid question but how could I do that without moving the ferule off the other end?

+1 with Midlife. Either the inner cable is binding with the outer....or....the return springs on the caliper are sticking.

Definitely not the calipers they've always worked great. I imagine it will be something I've done when fitting the cable.

Will try greasing it up and see what happens, if not that I'll have a look at the outer as I have plenty spare.
