I don't think botm ever recovered after all the falling out over the pro's closet entering loads of bikes. Seemed to make some people angry and the arguing turned people off so people like me that didn't really care either way stopped spending too much time on the threads.

Last time we had a long running 'retrobike is doomed' thread admin pointed out that actually some sections are more active than they've ever been.

Speaking as one who 'bats for both teams'…. No no that’s plain wrong  , ‘sits on the fence’ no that sounds too wishy washy…… 'enjoys riding both off and on road'.
This mucky side has a lot more trade than the clean trouser brigade….. ;)

Re:

It just lack of traffic and interest because other platforms have taken over. RB hasn't really branched out enough to use those platforms to draw them here. If you want the BoTM bike and vote count up post the content on IG and the competitors. Show of the winners on IG ... maybe even make the "like" count matter in the overall vote. I would shy away from FB as a platform to push on as its basically replaced so much of what this board does already. IG is more of an access point.

Really the solution is pretty simple ... it's the initiative to get it started and maintained. I can understand why that's hard. People have lives.

In terms of number of votes on the poll, it didn't seem to be open for very long (or maybe it was just that I was very busy). I would have voted and kept checking the nominations, but the poll hadn't been put up and then when I saw it was, it was already showing results. I would hypothesise that the longer between when nominations are closed and the poll going up, the fewer votes are likely.

That's in no way meant as a criticism of the people who spend their time doing it, just my opinion on one of the reasons.

Could not agree more with Jim. I understand managing a site takes a lot of time and resources though. Maybe the membership base is willing to help out. There seems to be a willingness based on last the December BOTM along with some very talented and knowledgeable people here on such matters. Nonetheless, congrats Jim and all of the other submissions on an exceptional month of bikes.

I've read this three times now and still don't get it. All I know is IG was before HG and less finicky.
