A quick stem question from a newbie... (sorry...)

No worries.. just rem if your frame is the exact same as LGF's pic,
ie your front brake threads thru the stem. You will need to think about a canti hanger as a modern 1 1/8 ahead stem wont have this feature. That is unless your upgrading to v'brakes when canti hangers become irrelevant.

I'm on V-brakes mate. Although I'm assuming the width between the cantilever pivots used to be a lot wider on older bikes. As my V-brakes seem to be very 'pinched', was this to accommodate the 1"+ rim width...?

I've emailed that other supplier in the U.S. No shipping to the UK. Keep looking...

Age has nothing to do with the width of the brake mounts, canti or v-brake, its rim width that makes your brakes 'pinched' - play around with the spacers that come with the pads, reverse the thin with the thick etc
