2003 Klein Q-Carbon Team -> now in fixed gear mode

Re: 2003 Klein Q-Carbon Team project -> Some progress

Love kleins but that bike need a fully record 10 speed Ti groupset that would look lovely and be period correct. Get the seat post too and the hubs if you can afford them. Lace the hubs to some lovely ambrosio nemesis rims and uhmmmmmmm sex on wheels.

Still it is going be a lovely bike no matter what you do as the frame is so gorgeous.

Re: 2003 Klein Q-Carbon Team project -> Some progress

Well, that WAS my first idea but then I had a look in my bank account.

Thanks for the kind words!

Re:

Love the color!
Reminds me a bit of those 90's Look bikes.
What dit you do to get the seatpost clamp so perfect?

Re: 2003 Klein Q-Carbon Team project -> Some progress

Did not take much effort. After removing the black anodizing (oven cleaner) I used steel wool (000 grade) and finally a bit of polishing (an old sock & some Autosol).

Re: 2003 Klein Q-Carbon Team project -> Some progress

Ok. I'm never going to finish this. Too little money, too many bikes. Sold the frame. Sorry.

Thanks for looking!

Re: 2003 Klein Q-Carbon Team -> Finished!

Thread revived!

Few months ago I was contacted by the person I sold the frame to.
He had had an accident and the rear derailleur had been caught in the spokes. As a result the derailleur hanger was badly bent.
He asked me if I would want to buy the frameset back for a very reasonable price.
I thought about it for a while and said yes.

The bent hanger. Threads are gone too.

The poor frame. The black decals were applied by the previous owner. I'll leave them on for now.

I figured it would be just too much trouble to try to bend the hanger back and helicoil the threads.

So what I did was take a completely different approach. No more gears.
I took out a bunch of parts I already had and turned the bike in to a fixed gear conversion! Haha.
So this is it. My summer bike:

I had to buy 130mm end caps for the rear hub to fit to this frame.

Managed to find a black 40T chainring with a BCD of 94mm.

The stem clamp is shimmed down to 25.4mm. You can see the brass shim.

The front wheel is borrowed from another bike. I'd like to replace it with a lightweight road front wheel with maybe 20 spokes.

Like the final guise although not keen on the bar and stem combo or the seatpost, I'd also have to add a Klein decal too but all in all a mighty fine ride
