1996 Kona Kilauea - re-freshed for 2010?

98/99 Sids would indeed look good.
I've managed to get a set of 2010 Magura Menja 85mm forks with canti bosses are a really good price. I already run a set of 100mm versions on my FS and like them. It is also in keeping with my aim of taking a 15 year old frame and bringing it bang up to date with components.

After taking these shots I went out for a spin, and it felt great except for the hard front end so looking forward to some cushion.

Forgot to mention in a previous post that I also weighed the build as 23.5lbs as seen, and does feel light.

First time I've looked in on this nad I gotta say. . that is extremely nice

I sort of like the '93 paint-jobs but always felt they lacked something.. this would appear to have picked up on that and dealt with it..

Lush as a very lush thing. . . smart build to boot

So. received and fitted the Magura 85mm suspension forks. Pictures updated here. Almost final build now - just need a 90mm stem.

Went out for a good 2 h ride yesterday and it felt great, but it was a shock to go off road and down rocky descents on a hardtail again. I've only had a FS (another Kona) for about 10 months but I've gotten so used to it.
Nevertheless, all felt good, the front end feels just like my FS Kona (to be expected) and despite not having a rear cushion, the Columbus tubes rode as I remembered them.

Spray the fork lowers gold :)

ye, did mul over this. Did consider the silver version that are available, but couldn't get them at the price I paid, and besides the 2011 models were imminent (hence the price) and no silver option.
Of course Silver isn't gold, but I thought it would go.
As it is, now that (boring) black are fitted, I actually prefer them to the gold PII. Tones things down a little

Lovely paint, but prefer the P2 forks and old skool parts, was it originally Canti brakes?

My age, body (and lack of skill) require me to have some comfort upfront

12 months ago this bike was very retro - albeit upgraded from the original build.
1996 Kona may have had some great frames, but the build parts were possibly the worst - gripshift, Curve cantis, curve bottom bracket (mine was replaced for LX due to constant creaking) etc.
1997 resolved most of the poor build options .....

Gotta say, I've never liked Kona's even when I was younger but the paint job on that is fantastic, I know there's a "We are the BORG you must fit original parts" cliche on here but the new bits on that bike and the general look of it makes me want one, and that's saying something.

Must admit not a fan of the forks maybe the pictures but they look a little too chunky looking for my tastes.

Anyway quality bike congrats on the hard work paying off.
