1994 Claud Butler Antaeus 7005 (Finished Pg8)

Re: 1994 Claud Butler Antaeus 7005

Thanks to e-bay a cheep long series allen key turned up in time for the weekend :D , so the forks got a full strip, these are going to get some easy (for me) work that should make a marked change to their appearance…

But first I wanted to pop the springs and few bolts from the brakes, pedals etc into Eastwood’s “Rust Dissolver”.
I’ve been doing some tests with this and it is a lot more aggressive than Evapo-rust, but that’s not always a good thing. This one is definitely for steel only, no aluminium or galv finished items. Plus, you must keep an eye on it. If you forget & leave your chromed bits & bats in this for a week it will have started to damage the chrome!

BB, Crankset, chain rings, bolts, front mech and rear mech all fully stripped down, scrubbed, serviced and now back on.

nice Work as usual.

Thank you Mr THM, you’re too kind.....

VP-Components pedals and Tioga Power clips next on the clean up list.

Stripped the VPs down last night, the bolts had a rust-eating acid bath, the cages got a proper clean then an acid etch black primer followed by an acrylic Matt lacquer.
The pedals got a proper buffing.

The Tiogas went through the dishwasher and got a liberal coat of 303.

Re: 1994 Claud Butler Antaeus 7005

So I was allowed to take my tea break from decorating the utility room in my workshop… Christ knows why Mrs Peachy wants it finished so fast, I told her “calm down, we’re gonna be here for at least 20 years, plenty of time…” it didn’t wash of course… :?

Anyway… the Tranz-X clamp came up well and so did the Kalloy seat post.

But once the ensemble was put together, it was pretty obvious that the Flite Ti was letting the side down.

I find one of the joys of mucking about with a budget build is you get to try a few ideas out; I’d heard that spraying a tatty leather saddle with KIWI colour renew is a better bet than shoe polish, but I’d never tried it..
First impressions are good, though I won’t fancy riding it with white cotton shorts!

Re: 1994 Claud Butler Antaeus 7005

The old Mavics are in reasonable condition, but with a nasty grey stain on the anodising. :|

The CS M-737 Cleaned up well even though gears 6,7 & 8 were completely full of something like concrete, fortunately this softened during a good oil soaking after separating 5,6,7 & 8 from the cassette. ;)

QR’s are having a rusty bath for the night… the grey stains came off with petrol and elbow grease, as for the tyres I think the Psycho’s just aren’t worth the time to clean them up so I’m going to fit a pair of Tioga Factories that are in much better condition tomorrow. :)

Like many others I’ve been topping up on my daily updates, and have recently polished a quite a few crowns however that one came up especially well, was it a machine polish or a rag and Jaffa cake and Lemongrass infused metal polish job
