1992 Cannondale M500

That was my thought but the serial number says it's a Nov 91 and it has a 1" headset, not the 1.25 which came on the 93s.
The M500 in the 1993 catalogue has a 1" steerer.

Going by the catalogues, '93 is the only year with that style of dropout and a separate seat clamp. That's contradicted by your serial number.

It's possible that the separate seat clamp was a running change in the '92 model year: the '92 catalogue would show welded clamps, but bikes reaching the public might have separate clamps. Stranger things have happened.

I think it is most likely an early 92 with an unexplainable seat clamp due to the head tube dia. I have been told the frame had m735 XT in the late 90s, but this may not have been original.

As you see the frame is not the m800 BotE model, and the Pace forks need plenty of work.

looking at this

and also the fact benandemu, who rode this in the 90s thinks it was an m800, along with a November 1991 serial number/1" headset, Iam going with 1992.

Can anyone confirm m800 by looking at it? it is hard to tell I guess without the pepperoni forks fitted.

I have a feeling it would have been the black/fade to green colour and the colour seen could be the base coat.

The paint chips on this 'Dale around the seat clamp area kind of match the bits left on the rear ond of mine and this is similar in colour to the rear of the 1992 green fade

any other ideas?

I don't think the m800 came with a 1" steerer did it? Certainly not during the period under discussion anyway.

any other ideas?
I dug up a couple of 1992 M500s:

They both have their original paint as shown in the 1992 catalogue, but both have a separate seat collar, and a double seatstay bridge, like your bike. All the higher models have oversized headsets.

That doesn't account for the green paint, but it does prove that 1992 models were sold with separate seat collars.

Mmmmm, some more research I think.
