1994 Kona Explosif

Re:

Looking a bit different, crank went cos' I didn't want to break that much cash, Mag 21 off to try it rigid, meant a change of headset and stem, although I will get a conversion kit for the King at some point. M900 has returned to the Orange Prestige, I now have less qualms about riding it! Weighs in at 22lbs 13oz which makes me happy!
PS. Not sure how I didn't notice the dog egg bag in the tree! Take it home/put it in a bin, dirty feckers! DSC_0136-1280x722.JPG

That's a beauty. Probably my favourite Kona colour, along with the '97 Rasta flames. Oh, and the pre '90 splatters :)

Re:

Haven't revisited this for a while! I was looking at my Cannondale the other day and couldn't help realising that the spec it has ended up with would suit the Explosif a treat, so out came the spanners!

looking good with the Mag's and the new stem

happy you post a pics. of the 94 Explosif with a Mag21 as commonly you see them with the Marz. - like mine have. But as the Marz. are loosing air, I wanted to testfit a Mag21 to see how it looks - which I dont need now :D

Changed a few things: DT Hugi hubs on Mavic 230s with Revolution spokes, Maguras with Altek levers, nice original Raceface Turbine LP cranks, nothing is borrowed off of my other bikes unlike before :D

Having done the above, on the second ride a miss timed stumphop killed the rear rim and whilst undoubtedly fast, the low stretched position played havoc with my back after an hour or so.
I watched Dirt over the weekend, JMCs M2 gave me some inspiration, I have a few bits lying about, so thought I'd have a go at an early 'hardcore hardtail'. Sun Rhyno Lite rims should be stronger than the 230, Azonic bar and Shorty stem makes a difference for the old back! Mag 21s looked really spindly with the stem, so on with the MXCDs with the massive crown that fits better with the stem, they work so much better over small stuff than the Rockshox! Also m900 shifters and rear mech (thumbies didn't look right on the bars).
I have a Pace RC-50 Mt lock front hub I may fit if I can be arsed to rebuild the front wheel again!
It is a more comfortable place to be now, rides beautifully and I dare say won't stay like this for long!
