Killing these people makes martyrs of them. And that's what they wanted surely!
They wanted the authorities to do something monstrous to them so that they could bring some moderate muslims over to their side.
Killing them is doing them a favour.
All you can do with this scum is treat them fairly and show your society is better than theirs.
Then, once the fuss has died down, and with no publicity - "lose" the key. Accidentally on purpose.

Let us see how things unfold before we get carried away with call for the death penalty being reintroduced.
How on earth would that work as a deterrent?
It is salient to note that the abolition of the death penalty is nothing to do with Human Rights.

Make use of them, lets have Gulags in remote places where the weathers crap but we have lots of rock to break with hand tools for a variety of reasons. Much of good old Scotland fits the bill, a unpopulated island in the outer hebrides where the wind never stops and summer is an interesting but unproven concept. Living there all the time can break the strongest spirit.
Not in favour of death penalty because there will alway be mistakes, but also feel prison should mean something and life sentences should be life.
