1983 Specialized Stumpjumper Sport

Here are some more pics, inc fork detail and now I'm pretty sure it's a SPORT! Any insight into the frame # would be great.

It's terrible I have not cleaned it up yet. I will take my time when I do it (and get advice here)... Another (more exciting to me) project has taken over for the moment - I will post that when ready!

Thx

The serialnumber makes it a Stumpy from August or September of 1982!

And yes, now I know why you thought it is a Sport! Same frame though, only some cheaper parts.... Nothing wrong with it! ;)

Give it a good clean and keep the historic patina!

OK I will take your word for it and have update the title to 82 - Sounds good - Thanks! It is awful I have not cleaned it up yet

Not sure what do do about the bars? I think they could have been swoped out when new? I have seen Specialized child bike bars that look very similar to mine.

I think it's a Stumpjumper Sport from modelyear 1983, but produced in 1982. In modelyear 1982 they did not offer the Sport.
Think you will have to look voor a Ritchey Nitto bullmoose bar. That's the way they were fitted in 1983!

This is so great!! What a great find!! It looks like it's in an excellent condintion.

I'm so happy bikes like this still exists. Take good care of it so that future generations can see some of the early mtb magic.

Great stuff - Thanks for that. Yes I feel committed to getting the right bars now. Front pads are doable, but those tyres will be real tough!
