Centurion Dark Image - DONE

Hello everybody!
Since I am still waiting for my Brodie to come from Bosnia and Herzegovina, I had some empty space in my resto calendar.

The story of this bike began couple of weeks ago when I went for a ride in park. I noticed old bike behind a tree, but these are very often here in Swe so I didn't pay too much attention to it. However this one was there for very long time so I was certain it was abandoned so I decided to check it out. As I was getting closer to the bike I noticed it didn't have tires, that there was rust all over it and that there was alot of damage on wheels. I felt sorry for the old girl so I decided to restore it and give it to my brother in law as moving in present.

I checked at police if they had anyone reporting stolen old bike and since they didn't have any bike that matched the description nor picture, they thanked me for keeping city clean. Sweds are really polite and I love that!

So this is going to be budget build; the goal is to use everything that can be repaired and reused and to spend as little money as possible.

It has complete STX group on it and Araya rims that have been ridden on without tires; people can be ruthless!
Cables, saddle, grips, seatpost and tires are going to be bought new.

Anyway enough of writing, here are some pictures:

Re: Centurion Dark Image

Also, I haven't been able to find anything about this bike on the internet since it is not retro goodie, but if anyone has any informations please do tell.

Re: Centurion Dark Image

It would seem that a brand by the name of Centurion had something to do with Diamond Back, but I think that link was confined to road bikes post '80's. I would guess lots of people would want to use that name. Obviously STX is late '90's so my guess would be some Euro brand, maybe German supermarket style.

If you search Centurion on here you will get a few results.

Here is one. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=278373&hilit=centurion

Re: Centurion Dark Image

Thank you for reply, I know about that Centurion/DB/PP story.

Still this one is going to be gift and not actually ridden as true mtb, more like city bike so it is more than enough.
and one more plus side to this is I get to restore it :)

Re:

That's funny. The bike in the linked thread looks like a german Centurion Explorer or similar. And I'd doubt they had or have anything in common with the US make Centurion or Diamond Back, anyway.

I'm sure it's a german Centurion. They had some expensive bikes in their line up, although not a boutique brand. Some say, so does wikipedia, they produced the first german MTB (edit: in 1982) and invented the hybrid.

The article also says they were general distributor for Eddy Merckx. Now you know where Mr. Brell had his Corsa Extra from, @firedfromthecircus ;)

Re: Centurion Dark Image

Centurion ist very well known here in Germany. They build good bikes. Have been in the business since the very beginning. In the 90s their powder coating was excellent.
