Kona lava dome 1993 restoration

Blingnbling

Retro Newbie
Thought I'd share my latest project with you guys.
Kona lava dome 1993
I Found it on ebay for £50 with the seat post stuck in the frame, ok for
a 6ft7 rider, also some odd non genuine gear shifters fitted, pedal bearings u/s, lower headset bearing collapsed, freewheel seized and so on.
Eventually managed to remove seat post and frame is now off to the powder coaters.
Now time to buy some new parts to put back on.
I will post some more pictures once back.

Re:

Did it come out with wd40? Can't have been that stuck!

20"? Frame?

Do like this bike. My bro had one as his first bike.

Re: Kona lava dome 1993

Lol no it didn't come with wd40. Took a week to remove, seat post was wrecked lots of heating and lubricating.

Frame is a 18 inch.

Re:

Nice, love old Konas of that era.. Paint doesn't look at all bad to me, might be the photo flattering it though

Randomdan

The photo defiantly is flattering the paint job, lots of paint damage from the chain slap and also general ships.
Also I've had to file down where the chain had caught between the crank and frame.
I wish I had taken some before and after photos now.
Oh well will see how it turns out next week once back from paint.

Coomber

The frame does look big in pictures but it is defiantly a 18, possibly the forks hanging out of the frame make it look bigger in photo.

Frame is a 19" same as my 93 Lava Dome in the same colour scheme, are you having it painted same colour again or changing it?

Spudly,
I could not decide what colour to have it painted, in the end I decided on powder coating it. So it will be different, you'll have to wait and see what colours I went for hopefully it looks ok.
I should have it back this week and will post pictures ASAP.

Any plans for your kona or are you leaving it standard?

Re:

Ok guys,
Here you go frame, forks, handlebars and stem back from powder coating.
Courtesy of bristol motorcycle powder coatings.
Time to fit all those new and old parts.
Any ideas where I can get some stickers?
