The wheels are NOS Araya RM20s on DX hubs on Pan Smokes. One, I had them in the garage doing nothing and two, I don't like the Mavics that this model would have come with.
I have Mavics on my standard Team and I don't find they handle my bulk that well. I seem to be truing them up far too often. The RMs are a lesser quality I agree and from a 91 period but much better suited to my riding style.

Yep, the cable stops are on the driveside. Is that different to yours then?

Yes mate.. mine run along the other side? :? making the back brake cable go to the right of the headtube when looking from the front.
Maybe welded on a Friday afternoon and the guy wanted to get off home.
