Does anyone have any experience of the new type of 30mm BB's in terms of durability? I have the SRAM version on my Boardman Hybrid and, albeit having been a crap winter on the roads, it is already creaking like no ones business when under pressure. There isn't any play and it feels smooth but the noise is definitely coming from the BB. The bearings are only £25 to replace but does that say it all about their longevity? Are there any better quality alternatives yet such as Hope maybe?

Trevor.

i have BB30 on my Eriksen and the bearings went after a relatively short period of time i thought. I did a bit of research and found that they must be installled with a Loctite retaining compound and perfectly aligned as well so make sure and get the correct tools. Loctite 603 and 641 retaining compounds are what you will need. Make sure you buy well sealed bearings next time if it does turn out to be that or it could just be that the bearings need removed and compound applied. Take the chain off and spin the cranks, that should be a good indication.

And phone a bearing supplier if reqd, thats what i did as you have a lot more options and they can normally overnight them to you. Pretty sure hope wont do those bearings and if they do they'll be outsourcing them from a bearing manufacturer
