Shimano 6400 8speed rear mech

Hi what is the max cassette size for the 8speed tri 64** series rear mech as I would like to fit an 11-30? Anyone tried this??

I dont know exactly but I'm sure the cage was removable so you could swap it with a LX/DX/XT mech of the same period.

I ran a 32t but had a chain guide too.
 
It is probably marked on the cage. about 27 or 28 tooth I expect, but you might be able to get it to work with a 30, depending on your chainrings. Velobase probably have the specs too.
