Skip Rescue:Schauff 'Rudi Altig'

I was passing a skip in my local neighbourhood yesterday and whilst driving by, spotted a bike leaning up against it.

I returned today and resolved to collect it, if it was still there. It was there and so I loaded it up! (after asking permission)

By all accounts it's a pretty bog standard sort of thing - White with black 'Rudi Altig' decals. Parts are huret with shimano hubs / rigid rims and weinmann brakes. i think possibly columbus tubing, although the decals are gone.

I pumped the tyres up, checked the brakes and I was off!! :D
I think the frame is too big ( I've set the saddle quite low), but it rides well!

I don't have any pics yet, but it's identical to this ( except white )

Nice find!

I have never found a bike in a skip, but I did wade in to a stream once to obtain a dumped Merlin!

Hope you enjoy your find.

Cheers all, having some fun already!

Stripped it all down for a quick clean - the derallieur was so dirty that the chain would hardly run through it when back pedalled - everything is now removed for a clean up :)

Looks like the forks were once chrome, long ago overpainted with old black hammerite :? - Stamped Tange Japan 1H, which i think means made August 1981.

After much slaving away in the shed it's pretty much finished :D ( Haven't quite got around to fitting the down tube shifters + cables yet)

Probably the hardest part of this project was removing the years of dirt on absolutely everything :? It really was ready for the scrap heap, but I think I've made some improvements. Now time for a cup of tea! Phew!
