Is it just me or are all the newbie roadies starting to look like praying mantis riding their shiny new Treks and Specialized?

Their bars seem way up around their shoulders so they're riding almost upright.

Yep, and the bars seem to be getting wider as well. I suppose it's the manufacturers targeting the sportive riders.

I'd say it's riding position rather than geometry. I thinks it's just the result of:

lots of seatpin showing, i.e. a very low top tube
low bars (I mean the height of the horizontal bit, where the stem attaches)
a more upright riding position

To get the upright position, you need to rotate the bar up, and fit the brake levers so they point upwards. And also have a upwards pointing stem and loads of headset spacers. All this makes the brake levers actually higher than the saddle, but you still get the race bike look with lots of exposed seatpin and the top of the bars lower than the saddle.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with a more upright position.

Ive got quite a few drawings of the latest generation carbon frames taking away the silly sloping top tubes the angles and dimensions havent changed much from the old steel frames.
