time for goodbye to my rarist piece! Ridgeback 605

Retro junkie

Retro Guru
with a heavy heart its time to move a couple of things on. first to go is my 1989 ridgeback 605 competition series, its always been to big for me to be comfortable on, and would suit someone 6ft +.

its the top of the range back in 89 with a price tag then of £825. Tange fillet brazed frame of 22", the biggest they made in the series. its in very very good conditition and has seen very little use throughout its life. All the drive train has very minimal wear and the paint is excellent.. full period xt groupset from back then, even the headset is xt...the only thing that's not original is the seat....

shall start with enquires first to see if any ones interested, but I'm looking for £350.

Re:

These are just lovely to ride. Best bikes Madison ever made. Perfect for touring too.

I have to phone a friend for pictures!!!
I've bumped up a thread on mtb chat. The thread is what's the rarest part you own. There's a pic of it at last years iconno on pg 16 of that thread

Re:

Cheers stevie!! All the above pics are before I had a chance to give the bike a good clean. Hours of t.cut and autosol on the alloy bits soon got it back up to standard

Re:

Hey M- power just noticed something freaky. We both joined here on the same day but two years apart!!!!
You're right on how nice these are, some of my other bikes are just as original as this is.
If i didn't have my Rourke then this wouldn't be up for the chop, but it's time for someone to give it a good home again and actually use it for the intended purpose..

My Rourke holds a very special place in my heart as it's the first one I restored from start to finish. A lot of people helped me and were involved with it one way or another. So needless to say the Rourke is going no where

Fricking love these fillet of fish brazed beauties.

Lovely bikes! ( Not to be confused with the 1993 605RS) .....bet very few of these are left!?
- takes me back to the 1989 Freewheel catalogue

Not in a position to buy myself as -
i) It's a bit big for me
ii) I've already got the 704XT Tange prestige goodness from 1990.

....but good luck with Sale.

Here's the catalogue pic to get those Freewheel memories going
(Cheers to Coleman for original scans )

Re:

Hi
Did you ever sell this Ridgeback?
I have a 602LX from the same year I bought new and remember drooling at the 605 in the showroom.
Cheers
Mike
