m952 crank bolts and washer

Ok i have a m952 crank and removed the self extracting bolt.
On cleaning them a thin metal.washer came out of one crank arm.
I don't have a photo of it but on checking the other side there didn't seem to be one.

Should there be one either side and where do they fit?

What function do they perform?
Are they required as I only have 1.

Ok here is an image of what I mean.

(You can see the washer within the rh crank (with rings) but not in the lh one)

Can I use aftermarket bolts to hold the crank on?

If so what type is recommended

Re:

Any octalink bolt will work.

The washer sets on top of the bolt head and under the cap iirc. It lets the bolt push against the cap and not try to turn it when extracting.

They are not needed to keep the crank on, just helps a bit when using the self extracting bit

The xtr bolts are a nice lightweight aluminium bolt. Is the Allen key socket bit damaged? If not just use them.

Re:

There are already plastic washers on top of each bolt that go between it and the threaded cap.
This washer appears to sit between the bolt and crank arm.
Should there be a washer there?

All the sets of M950series XTR cranksets I've had used had steel bolts as standard. I've got a few sets of alu bolts, if anyone needs any...

Re:

Yes there should be the washer under the bolt as well for a similar reason.
Didn't see the pictures the first time, no idea why.

Re:

Just get some different ones
or fit without a washer or look for another one.

It was just a picture reference. Could try your local Shimano dealer/online seller with the part code.
