Q for Avid Arch Supreme overhaul

Guys,

I want to overhaul my Arch Supreme. What do you use to remove the bearing lock nut? I read in the manual that a special tool is needed from Avid. Not sure if SRAM would even cover the old Avid stuff. So has anyone tired a homemade method and worked?

It is worth asking Avid direct. In the old pre Sram days they were incredibly nice, friendly and generous about answering tech probs etc.

Has changed a bit now, but I'm sure some of the old guard are wtill there and if you can find an email address through the Sram front wall, then try them.

I seem to remember a friend took them apart and without the tools but I never touch mine - so not able to help 1st hand I'm afraid.

The bearings in mine are sounding gritty so I have no choice. Wonder if a watch case back opener would work...I am going to try it.

haven't come across a set that don't have grindy bearings to be honest. A little grind at least. And they all seem to still work ok.
