Yike Bike!

Rode across Fairfax today to a friend's house and he had the weirdest looking, backassward riding, carbon fiber electric two wheeler I've ever seen! When you ride it, it feels like a two wheeled wheelchair, hurtling down the pavement with nothing in front of you! Pat

they had these on the gadget show
blimey expensive!

always remind me of a segway :?
how do they work again?
and is there actually any exercise involved?

Nah, no exercise involved at all, just a different sense of balance, electric motor in the Big Wheel. Really kind of suicidal IMHO. Will go maybe 12 mph. I had my bike clothes on because I rode over there and it was quite cold for around here today, about 37 F.--- Google YikeBike and watch a video. Pat

Very cool, Jim! Looks a lot like the Yike Bike in Manual Reverse! I especially love the Lowrider Headlight! It just goes to show that everything old is new again. When I was working with Mert Lawwill back in the early 90's, the patent search on Mert's fork turned up some amazing designs going back to the early 1900's. What happened to all those talented early engineers? The internal combustion engine and the airplane sucked them all away to design planes, trains and automobiles. It seems like most stayed away from bikes until MTB came along with the attendant boost in sales and need for new technology and then we got a lot of new innovations-in many cases based on really old designs with modern improvements.
