i want some advice from the style police:

for my zaskar le project i wanted to use full xtr m950.
however, i like the look of the holow axle drive train like a m960 or 2011 slx

does anybody runs a m960 crank with m950 components?
does anybody runs a slx crank with m950 components?

or is the wheight/strenght win with the m960/slx with a m950 crank to litle to bother and do i buy a m950 set?

this zaskar is my only rider, so it will be used ...

grtz, Danny

M952 4arm = 685mm
BB for it = 185g or 215g
crank bolt ? say 20g ?
So say 890g or 920g

M960 = 800g all in

M660 SLX = 886g all in

little win on the wheight department.
so on the lookout for a good set m950

can you get new chainrings for those?

Not really, unless you'll find 4-arm spider from Middleburn or 5 arm version which was as an option in M950, LX (M570) spider will fit as well with M950 cranks.

Having used a SLX crakset on my zaskar and now on the Yeti,I'd not want to go back to square taper. They are so stiff and light, even the slx.XT is only about 30g lighter. And in the black, they look good.

CRC has got an outer M952 one at the moment for £35 which is a ridiculous bargain. BTW it doesn't look like the one in the picture of course because the outer ring is the integral 'spider'. That one's a middle there.
