So I've just got an old ('93) Cinder Cone that has been fitted with XT Parallax hubs on Mavic 217's. The thing is I know absolutely nothing about the hubs - does anyone know much about them, when they were around, what Parallax actually means etc ?
Cheers in advance. :)

Parallax means that they had the fatter (parallel) inside between the flanges, compared to the old 'apple core' earlier hubs.

According to their marketing people  this made a much stiffer hub, ideal for suspension.

If I remember correctly, they came out in 1993. Someone will be along any time to put me right.

Decent hubs, I have them of my kona and they run nice and smooth and have done for they year I have the wheels and the many year the previous owner had the wheels.

Plus they're shiny!
Not really had a chance to ride the bike properly at all yet but they certainly seem good quality (as is the norm with XT).
My first project too so it'll be a while until I'm out and about on them I expect.

Hey Stu,

Post some pics up of your new old Kona 8)

My money says your have at least two old bikes by this time next year

I've got those too on titanium coloured 217 rims and have never had a problem with them, they are still as smooth as anything. The front one has the yellow band around the middle which I think was supposed to be for suspension forks.
