i've looked and looked ,but can find nothing to say what the max front ring i can use on this mech,im running a 48T single outer and the usual 12-32 rear
But i want to convert back to triple should i need to
Anyone know?
Ive been to several sites but all they tell me is the timeline of shimano parts and the like

If you are running a single rear mech it will cope with a max of around 43-45T difference, depending on cage length. If you have a single front ring then it doesn't matter at all.

So add up the difference in the back and the front and that's what the mech can wrap.

E.g. a 12-32 back with 22/32/44 front is 20+22=44.

What your talking about is the rear mech which is not what im asking thanks.
I need to know about the front mech capacity
all front mechs are size specific [i believe]
Its either for a compact drive [ie 94mm bcd
or its for a non-compact[ie 110mm bcd

As far as im aware some mechs are for over 46T others for under 46T and that they're not compatible with the wrong size of chainring
The mech is a front XT m750 E-type ,so can i use it on a noncompact chainring with 48T?
or do i need a different model

Think you will need one of the older front mechs that were designed for non-compact rings
Had a few problems with a M750 and large outer ring

I think all E-type XT are for compact so 44 at most, but they are designed to work best with 22, 32, 42

i was fiddling with an e type mech the other day. if you loosen off the two allen bolts on the front of the mech and flip the washer on the back over you can set it up for either campact or standard, it would have worked for me but now i need a longer axel
