XT Deore 7s ... Thumb Shifters.

Just bought a set of these and they are great shifters, however.. when in friction mode you can hear the sound of scraping due to small gritty bits gumming them up... does anyone know of a tutorial on how to strip these down without springs and small parts popping off and never to be seen again.... cheers.

They are pretty easy to take apart. This is from memory, but.....

Take shifter off mount using Allen bolt from underneath

Using a very small Phillips screwdriver, again from underneath, unscrew the small screw holding on the top cap

Inside there will be a nut holding it all together. Remove this carefully. There will be a small ball bearing under the first metal spring bit, so be careful not to lose it.

The rest should come off, take note of the order, orientation etc.

There is probably more to it, but that's what I recall from memory. Not done it for many years.

Im trying to figure out something else first... is the left hand front mech shifter indexed on these shifters... i know the right hand is switchable.. but the left one is spring loaded to the point that when i move it .. it springs back to where it was... thats b4 ive even took them apart ...lol

the lefthand is friction only, once its cabled up your front mech's spring should stop it moving
