Xizang....what do you make of this one?

I thought the matt-finish frame was the Lightning (though I don't recall it having those dropouts :? )

The Xizang dropouts are cast with little GT logos in them

Yes but this clearly isn't a Lightning:
1) it's made in the USA
2) It has the Xizang top tube end cap. Lightning end cap is larger and line stamped GT 3AL/2.35V
3) Xizangs have been built with about four different dropouts over the years. I believe the dropouts with logos were from 1995-99.

This is a Xizang and the dropouts on Maitou916's pic show the same.
Thanks Manitou(Waht year is yours). So this dropout must have been a one year wonder perhaps 93-4 era?

My Xizang has similar dropouts as well.
The frame is similar to the one in the pic from Manitou916.
Man, I just wish I could get '94 decals... Currently it has '96 decals and I've got a set of '95 ones.

Those 94 orange decals are going to be tough for anyone to reproduce. I've never seen a NOS original set for sale.

Didn't realise they did different dropouts over the years, my Xizang has the cast ones and is a '97 frame. Perhaps this has been bead-blasted by its previous owner?

mr manitou916 has just made me have a funny feeling in my tummy with that picture. OOOOOoooof! thats bloody lovely.
i have a sudden urge to go and give mine a quick polish....

no I talked with the original owner and I say owner because it was never ridden and he assures me that he got it that way from an auction at GT

Ti sports were urging the larger purchasers of ti frames to have them bead blasted and relieve the weld stress as this was seen as the way forward. The polished frames were weaker. It would be seen as an advantage over the other US builders.

Nah, leave it satin!!! Take a look at the Rektek and Rocky Mountain Ti Bolt in my gallery. Both these bikes also made by Sandvik same as GT. Ti Bolt getting Race Face Cranks and Avid levers and cantis over the next couple of weeks, and Ringle stem and post on there already!!! 8)
