How do.

I'm about to start creating a ratlook mk3 golf for the wife. I'm doing the bodywork myself with a friend. We have decided on a ww2 theme.

I'm thinking of german down one side and raf on the other.

Raf side will have some form of nose art. Probably a semi naked girl or something. Raf roundell on the door and some stencelling.

Luftwaffe side will have the luft cross and some i.d. Markings but beyond that i'm stuck.

Did the germans decorate their planes? Can't find any examples on google.

Any help would be great

The Germans did indeed do nose art.
One of the most memorable being Adolf Galland's Mickey Mouse.

Check this site out, used by model makers for their projects.

No air force in WW2 (or since as far as I am aware) has ever permitted nose art in service, the odd special paint job for promotional / airshow purposes is allowed (such as the NATO Tiget Meets) but this does not stop young men with a short life expectancy indulging their artistic side!

The USAF were the most graphic, the RAF more restrained.
The Luftwaffe were very conservative but Ace's were indulged though the art is more geometric and ironicly much of it is quite modernist.
Sweethearts names were the most common Luftwaffe decoraitve art, such as pictured below with crossed wedding rings on Heinz Knoke's 109:

Thanks guys. Looking for something a bit 'tougher' i think. Will definately have a dig through the links.

I used to have a book somewhere dedicated to this subject. Flying colours but can't pin it down anywhere.

Gotta look like It's gonna kick your head in!!

If you take it on holiday to the continent you'll get cheers on the way to the shops and boos on the way back.
