I have a post in the BMX section too, but thought here is a little busier.

A friends son is looking for a full size BMX to do up and tinker with. He has a budget of around £50, although will likely stretch to a little more (with help) for the right bike. Doesn't have to be retro, but would be good to have a machine that isn't some cheap klonker. Tatty is OK.

I know bugger all about BMX's, so any help is most welcome.

There is a GT frame at work that i can try and procure for you if you wanted?
Not sure on the price and if any other parts right now though.

Its kind of a khaki green colour, possibly a tour.

To be honest Josh we're looking for a bike that's rideable, but one that he can tinker with and upgrade as he saves up cash. But if you don't mind looking, that would still be good.

I don't even know what size frame he should look for. I'm guessing 20" wheels and a full size frame will suit any kid from 11yrs up?

Well i know for a fact that the fork is gone as it was bent but cant remember if another was added or not. As its stands where it is though, its frame only.

So will have a look and let you know if its a goer.

I've got what is essentially a specialized 415 form a few years back - no front brake, (Can probably dig one out though) and non-matching and battered looking forks.

Long time since it was ridden and I'll throw in a few bits too if you fancy, like the odd spare tyre or two, and some GYRO bits, pegs, whatever I can find really. Probably happily let it go for £50. It's all half decent stuff (basic 1-piece crank though) - not light by modern standard, and a touch short for me, so probably well suited to someone younger...

essentially like the pic, but different forks and saddle

Looks interesting, is that a full size bike? He's 4ft 6 but growing!

£50 collected or posted? Pic would be good too Si, then he can have a gander as it's his decision.

Cheers. 8)

I'll try to get a pic tonight.

BMX usually measured in top tube length - I think this is 20.5 -21" somewhere - I found it a tiny bit short (at 5' 11" and a bit).

It's a proper adult 20" wheel BMX,

Hadn't really considered the postage bit - I'm in Sheffield if that helps?

Cheers for the size info, all BMX look small to me!

You mentioned Gyro bits, does that mean they aren't actually installed, or you have additional parts for spinny bar tricks (technical term).

Would you be willing to post at cost if required?

quite happy to post - yeah. I should be able to get it all packaged up easily enough. (I'm usually slow though).

Gyro is fitted, but I think I've got some spare splitter cables and stuff too. To be honest, I'm not mad keen on them and brakes usually work much better with just a long rear cable (then you can still do bar spins etc). anyway, nobody rides with brakes these days....

It's fitted two intermediate type tyres, but I think I've got more dirt type one, and a more street specific type one too. I'll chuck in any 20" tubes I've got, but that might not be many (if any). Generally run the one with more tread on the front, as you'd expect with a MTB.

saddle at the moment is an old ragged specialized MTB one, but I think I've got a brown version of the one it should come with kicking round somewhere (that's heavy though). You're welcome to both if you want.

Pretty sure I've somehwere between 2 and 4 pegs too, but I never liked them.

I've attached a rubbish picture or two of it buried in the cave. I've tried to show the damage to the forks (they might be very slightly out of line too, but they never gave me any problems. It's only a few mm - and it's very hard to notice. (they were on a bike someone tried to steel when it was locked up in Sheffield centre years ago - for a while as I lost my bike lock key)
