I found a bike a couple of months back, which I reported to the Police. I thought that, once I had claimed it, I would Karma it to someone on these forums (see my original Karma thread HERE).

Since I started the thread, I am sure many of you will be aware in the news of the terrible tragedy that took place at a small coal mine in the Gleision Valley, South Wales. 4 miners were trapped underground when the mine collapsed - all of whom sadly lost their lives.

To cut a long story short, my local pub (The Windsor Arms, Penarth) is holding a fundraising auction on the 29th October to raise money for the families of the coal miners, and I have decided that I would like to donate the bike as an auction lot, to try to do my little bit. The trouble is, the bike needs a few bits and pieces to get it up and running, and this is where I'm hoping to appeal to everybody's charitable side.

Can I please ask that you look through your parts bins, and if you have any of the following bits that you are able to part with for a good cause, please let me know:

  • An 8/9spd chain Sorted - thanks Antstark :)
  • Bearings for a semi-integrated 1.125" aheadset (ball and cage or loose bearings)
  • 2 x pairs V Brake Pads (non-cartridge type) Sorted - thanks Antstark and elPedro666 :)
  • Black Grips Sorted - thanks development_cycle :)
  • Black Flat Pedals Sorted - thanks Antstark :)
  • A set of Gripshift shifters (9 speed) Sorted - thanks Makster :)
  • Brake/Gear Cables and Outers Sorted - thanks elPedro666, SwanHouseNappa, michael franks and foz :)

It could also do with some new forks, but that's a bit too much to ask so the RSTs will make do :)

From memory, I think that's all it needs to get up-and-running.

If you could reply on here (so that others know what has been donated and what hasn't), that would be great. I will then pm you with my work address.

Thanks in advance for helping out. I'll be sure to mention the website at the auction so everyone knows who helped put the bike together :)

May have parts for headset if ypu could describe exactly what it needs? (confused myself see  ).

Might have cables also, probably pending length

I don't have the bike yet - I'm collecting it on Monday/Tuesday so I don't know exactly what the headset needs, although when I had a look at it (before I handed it in to the police), the headset was loose, and the steering became very stiff when it was tightened which would lead me to believe that the bearings have gone.

The only description I can find online for the headset is "semi-integrated, ball type", which is helpful!

Regarding the cables - I'll take whatever you can offer. I need full length inners and whatever outer you can spare (I'm sure I can make something work ;)).

Some of the parts have arrived today :)

I haven't had chance to open the packages yet to see what's what, but I can feel the distinct 'grip-like' shape to one of the packages, so thanks to development_cycle for those - really appreciated.

I'm off to collect the bike tonight, so will post a couple of pics up so you can all see what I'm building. I realise that a 2007/2008 GT Chucker perhaps doesn't quite fit in the retro category  but I figured that nobody would mind, just this once ;)

Thanks again to everyone who has been in touch and donated kit :)

Iirc I have a se of headset ballbearings and needles. With the mount things.

Let me know which they are and I'll send them too you if I can did them.

Will you need anything else?
