Work stands ?

Hi all,
I need to purchase a work stand to get my projects kickstarted!
Are the £40 stands that you can get all over the web any good? Or do I bit the bullet and go for a park tools bad boy for at least twice the money?

Any advice please

Luke

You don't have to pay "park" prices to get a good stand. I for 1 can recommend a work stand that came from Lidl of all places! In fact I think many people on here have them. It was about £30 I think and Lidl release them every now and again but dont always have them in stock. (when they do they quickly sell out!)

Cheers

If you're budget is £40 then I'd go for one of these:

The Lidl ones are okay, but the clamp isn't strong enough to support a bike by the seatpost. You have to clamp them on the top tube and balance the bike to keep it level.
This is fine for gear and brake adjustments.

The one's in the link are better for jobs which involve getting a bit more torque into it. Things like working on the bottom bracket for example.

I have a Lidl stand which I use for washing bikes, and a Park Tool stand for working on them.
I've also used the ones in the ebay link.

It's also possible to cobble one together from a Light Stand, Tilt-Brolly Adaptor, Super Clamp and a couple of Spigots.
If you're into photography you may or may not have stuff like this laying about the place.

If you have cables running down the bottom tube does this stand make it difficult to work on them?

Yes. I have something similar.
I always hang the nose of the saddle over a wooden beam in the garage. And I've installed one at work for those quiet days.
