Woodrup short wheelbase race frame NOW WITHDRAWN

half cog

Senior Retro Guru
Hi
I have had this for a few years now and whilst it has been a great ride I am fast becoming more mudguards and Carradice so it may as well go. It is a pure race frame from the eighties. There are no mudguard eyes and no clearance even if there were. It takes a short drop brake. The tubing is Reynolds 531 SL ( special lightweight ) and It has Campag ends .It is steep angled and has a 920mm wheel base ( approx 36 1/4" )and therefore builds in to a quick and agile bike. Top tube length is 550mm ( 21 1/2 ") c/c. Chainstay length is 395mm ( 15 1/2 ") I had the frame checked over and shot blasted and re sprayed by Chris Marshall at keighley so all is well under the paint. It is a rather nice flam ruby red and looks a great deal better than the photos. The fork carries the matching frame number so is original to the bike. All threads are perfect. Very little by way of marks to the paintwork and should look almost as new when re built. Marks to note are.Edge of b/b shell, front mech mounting point, gear lever mounts and drop outs and just the odd small chip but by and large excellent condition.I dont have a use for the stronglight headset and it is in good smooth condition so it may as well go with the frame.Looking for £225 posted. Properly boxed with frame spreaders

Regards
Peter

Re: Woodrup short wheelbase race frame 560mm ( 22") c to

........... Total Class :)

But

just a bit confused as the bottom bracket has a single over the bracket braze for a 5/6 speed cable run for a TT frame but there are under bottom bracket guides for twin cables...........but there are two down tube braze ons for a double chain set.

There are braze ons for a bottle cage which were not used on TT frames (driest is fastest)

The seat cluster is 80's but the full sloping fork crown is 70's.

Is there a frame number?

Hi.
There is indeed. Not too discernable but its under the bottom bracket. Looks like 6067.Would have to take the fork out to be really sure as its on there as well. Presume this was a custom build or maybe the second lever boss and under b/b guide was added at a later date.I ran it with a double but you would not get a triple on it. I thought more road race than tt hence the bottle mount but could be wrong.I have really enjoyed it but sadly I find my style of riding has become somewhat more staid.Rather put the cash to upgrade what I am riding than leave it sat in a spare room

That's a nice looking frame & probably more a close clearance road frame rather than an out & out TT frame looking at the way she is built.

Re: Woodrup short wheelbase race frame 560mm ( 22") c to

I have always thought of it as a road frame as against a tt frame. Shauns comment about the seat cluster being 80s and the fork crown being 70s probably means that it was made very late 70 or very early 80 when there would have been a crossover of styles. The fork is without doubt the original and stamped as such.I have had the frame for around the last ten years and all braze ons are as I bought it. Sadly it now goes quicker than I do so its time to move on.

As I posted, that is a class frame without a doubt, and if I get my dates right built under Kevin Sayles at Woodrup :)

There is a picture on here with me on Woodrup which was copper plated :) what is the size from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat lug.......in inches for an older member :)

Thanks

Hi Shaun
In real measurements 22 1/2 to very top of seat lug hence 22" to top of top tube

This is a stunning frame....I have just bought a Merkcx.....and say this last night and screamed....oh noooooooo.....but thankfully it is too big..according to your recently added data..I feel if not better.....less worse.

Seriously....it is a gem of a frame in wonderful condition at a great price......whoever buys.....assuming it fits....will be very very happy......Woodrup is as good as it gets......GLWS
