'Drugs' includes alcohol.
Just like alcohol, most other drugs can generally be used in moderate, even 'safe', quantities.
They will not benefit people who have underlying problems that are merely pushed to one side temporarily.
Someone like Houston could afford all the counselling in the world. The people around her carry a deal of the blame for her not seeking enough help, but ultimately we all start down the road with our eyes open and carry on by choice.
Expected or unsurprising, it is still tragic.
Any story of human frailty that ends in an early demise is tragic.
