Why is this so difficult!?

Send a PM to Will911. He had a very nice complete Vindec he offered to me recently, which judging from the pictures was excellent original condition with new cables and whatnot.

His price at the time was also good, inc postage.

Also try Freecycle. When I need some more bikes I put the word out for a 'junk' bike to do up and it usually turns up a few. Most of the time they just need a pair of tubes, some oil and a spanner turned on them. It's your choice if you then spend money on them or just leave them as clunkers.

you can still find plenty of bikes for under 50 quid, just two weeks ago i saw a 90s raleigh pursuit with a compagnolo front derailleur (forget which type pretty low end though) for 25 quid at cash convertors...it had two flat tyres, looked a bit rough but it would have been perfectly workable for under 50.

If my house wasn't full i'd have probably had it.

The cost of everything and the high demands mean I don't think they are over the odds, you'll be lucky to pick stuff up for £50 for the simple reason that the demand outstrips the supply, people are much more clued up about values and the bikes that do go for that sort of money are normally snapped up by mass buyers who will sort it out and sell it on for profit.

Keep looking but don't expect something good to come cheaply.

Might be worth trying cards in newsagents windows - my dad's done this and got some great results in the free to £20 range including memorably a beautiful Faggin frame (http://www.fagginbikes.com). I love ebay, but from a buyer's point of view it has the disadvantage of making it much easier for sellers to see how much they could get for their bike and of pitting you against other people who are competing with you to buy the bike you want... even there though, there are still bargains to be had. Good luck!
