why did Ratbane's Kilauea go so cheap I wonder?

Pics. One pic is not enough. Ok, he may be in a rush to get it up, but can always post more later. They're only 6p each...

Might have been warranted, but the top end Kona's are now quite flooded in the market imho. bringing the price down.
Personally I think that's a fair price given what other similar material frames I've seen go for, but without the Kona name on it.

Is £77 cheap? Okay it has a Kona sticker but it is still just a Tange Prestige frame, of which there are gazillions available around the place. I would have thought anything over £50 is a good price.

To be honest most who appreciate the quality are the type of people that probably have a shedload of quality already and that's why we are seeing many sales with comments like "I would love it but no more room at the inn"

Most of the quality products are suffering in the current climate

and those not in the know just see it as one frame the same as another

just a bad time for big profits but a good time for small and regular profits :D

I'm ok with the price.

I had problems with ebay last week, couldn't update pics, couldn't include international bidders - sent plenty of pics out too. Ebay has been totally pants recently. I had a nightmare selling a drumkit to Spain through it. Had to take it off and sell outside ebay after.

I was up in Brum watching Rush last night when the auction ended, so was in a happy mood anyway.

Just to clarify, my sense of it being cheap arose from the perception that these usually go for £100-125 or even more, although I accept that eBay can be erratic. By comparison Konaman1's 1996 Kilauea frame (Columbus Cyber) recently sold on eBay for just over £200, having failed to sell on here for slightly less.

Although Explosifs are worth more than Kilaueas, it is worth noting that the perception that they are of a higher quality has very little substance. Rather, they were designed for different purposes, the Explosif as a race bike, the Kilauea as an all-day bike, virtually the same weight but a slightly softer ride quality. Both made out of Tange Prestige heat-treated tubing, and the Concept tubes that this Kilauea is made of were ovalised and tapered and thus more expensive than standard Tange Prestige. Back in 1994, the Kilauea frame sold for £349 and the Tange Ultimate Explosif sold for £399, not all that much more.

I was anticipating around £115 plus post, but I wasn't going to use this frame, so perfectly happy with the price.
