why are Fred Salmon parts not bling?

Can't answer why not bling other than "it doesn't say Ringle" on them , but have NOS matching stem and flat bars in the same bright blue - trying to work out if I'm ever going to use them (bars are 530mm).

but seems good value to me

you answered your own question there. Bling refers to something needlessly expensive and flash where the function is secondary to looks and cost is secondary to everything.

'Good value' and 'Bling' just don't go hand in hand.

...because they are re-badged Kalloy?
Are they? Show me a Kalloy stem that looks like that, or Kalloy skewers that look like my excellent Salmon ones.

Incidentally, my Salmon skewers are much lighter than my Ringle skewers, and my Salmon skewers work whereas my Ringle skewers don't. A sign of Kalloy's high standards of work perhaps.

The FS bar + stem combo had exactly the same width, angle and OEM engraving and same position and same layout as Kalloy bars. And Kore Lite for that matter when a lot was produced in Tiawan. Can't comment on skewers....but it's fair to assume they were not made in a shed in the Cotswolds ;-)

..oh I think Profile and Zoom are also in the same camp. BTW: Nothing wrong with Kalloy; they make the best rip-off Nitto S65 post that can still be found on X millions of bikes. Good enough for Ritchey, Specialised and Cannondale to slap their names on them.

I had some lovely Fred Salmon steel bars in a painted carbon effect finish that were great. They weighed in at a mere 128g (about the same as RC sub 130's). I thought they looked great.....

...then I found this site, found that RB gurus consider Fred Salmon stuff a bit uncool so sold them on. I'm ashamed of myself.

Well the good Ritchey and Specialised (sic) stuff was made by Nitto.

I remembering 'upgrading' my lowly British Eagle in 1993 ish with Fred Salmon, I was 13 at the time so I can only assume it was cheap and readily available: ie not bling.
