White Brothers Cartridge Plus Service

Dear RetroBike members

A while ago I found a RS Judy SL for my upcoming build of a 1996 Klein Adroit.

Luckily, the MCU´s had been replaced by White Brothers springs and cartridge.

Now, springs are in fine condition but I am not so sure about the cartridge, so might want to have a look on state of its internals.
When the cartridge expands I can clearly hear the oil move as intended, but when it is compresses, there are some small "metallic" noises, when it is almost fully compressed. Like metal on metal; could also be a spring being compressed and slightly turning.....

Anybody who has experience with these cartridges or have the original service manual (WB Part # 97-10)?

I would sincerely appreciate any help or suggestions :)

It sounds like a little air in the damper rather than metal, shouldn't be any springs in there. I think the white bros cartridges are serviceable so you could open up and top up with oil. I don't think you have much to worry about in terms of metal wear though, as the air sounds a bit like that.

Thanks ishaw

The reason I was mentioning a spring is, that I have this picture from a WB instructions manual that to my eyes show spring inserted on 1996.

I agree, that air bobbles can create quite a noise when moved around in a closed envionment. I will follow your advise and calmly reinsert the cartridge, grease the stanchions up again and with confidence continue to use this nice fork.
