When sniping goes wrong (Kona A'Ha content)

After discovering a Kona A'Ha on eBay I very efficiently setup a snipe on my laptop as well as my media PC as my laptop travels with me quite a bit and is not always connected to the network. You see where this is going, don't you? Received word back from the seller regarding the size which turned out to be too large. So I cancelled the bid on my laptop and, that's right, I failed to cancel the other on my media PC. :roll:

Anyway, the upshot is I thought I'd mention it here before negotiating to cancel the transaction with the seller in the event that another RetroBiker would be interested in a 1997 18.5" Kona A'Ha for US$103 + S/H which seemed a pretty decent grab. As long as I can get the seller to go for it I'd be happy to negotiate the shipping to Europe.

Eh, not as bad as I did. I wasn't sniping and ambled up to my computer and said, 'Oh crap, ten seconds left!" So I bid $63 for brakes. In my hurry, I bid incorrectly and just hit the confirm button. I bid $16300. I saw that and said, 'Oh, that was a mistake." Ended up winning, well I knew I was going to win , for $103. I emailed the seller and told him what was happening and offered him $20 to forget about it but was willing to go through with the auction. He did a second chance and the 2cd bidder accepted. He was ok with it in that he made about $15 more than if I hadn't bid. It happens.

All is well with the Kona transaction. The seller was understanding and happy to cancel the bid. I don't doubt she probably would have liked another opportunity to sell the bike for a bit more anyway.

I don't understand it. How on earth does a classic bike like that sell for as little as $103 over there? Doesn't anybody cruise down to the coffee shop on a Sunday morning any more?

That's fifty sterling and when I think of some of the rubbish that costs fifty sterling, like a couple of tickets to see the fake Beatles, it just seems ridiculous!
