Is it me or are everyone's projects going tits up lately ?
Picked up a White Spider that was rotten as a pear, Clunkers' Orange, cracked Yeti's and Ti stuff... the list goes on.
While I'm on, is it safe riding an old 7000 series ally frame that's 20 years old ? I heard of someone a while ago say you shouldn't ride them as they're likely to fail suddenly...

Maybe these bikes are getting old! :D
D'you think I may be asking a bit much then ?   I do appreciate we're working with some old gear but seems there's some projects with hidden holes/cracks going on of late. The Fisher I'm working on now has a mint steel framed tubeset from 88' whereas the newer Whitespider was fooked and was a better quality Columbus frame... Suppose it's all down to looking after them in the first place ?

Aluminium: With some makes/models I think you almost be sure there is something wrong. At least that is the impression I have after having seen so many cracked examples.

Rusted steel: A proper protected steel frame does not rust through for inside out. Buy a proper frame and protect it properly. I have seen rusted through Yo's (so not properly protected), but I do not know of many cracked ones :!: With my Grove Hard Core I do also not fear cracking. Extreme Punisher, also an option if you want a bike that lasts centurys.

Still, with every bike there is a chance it breaks (except the Hard Core and Punisher maybe  ). I think when you mention a make/model someone here on Retrobike will know a broken example of it.

when i bought my yo there was no sign of rust, but when it was blasted this made a hole and later a crack,
All i can say is that ANY fat you buy if not protected internally will probably be really near cracking,so good luck every one lookin to buy a yo,best to get it blasted before paint or not if you`d rather not know
